Polaris Song of the Day: Temporary Resident. Imaginary Cities.
What a lovely, intimate version of this song.

Montreal Hearts JPG.
The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts hosts a fantastique exhibition now through October 2: The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier. From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk.
And Montreal also hosts a supercool electronic music festival, Piknic Electronik, from May through September.
Together, they joined forces to create a rad new song, “How to do That Montreal”, sung by Gaultier himself in the late 80’s! And DJ Boogat just remixed it.
Et voila! Now I have it for you. Enjoy.
Polaris Song of the Day: Highway Steam. Hooded Fang.
Hooded Fang the band sounds day-dreamier, friendlier, make-you-wanna-dancier, and all-around nicier than Hooded Fang the literary villain.
Polaris Song of the Day: Yer Spring. Hey Rosetta!
Today, Polaris announces the short list! But I’m not through the long list! So I’m gonna keep on going with it…
I first saw Hey Rosetta! at a NXNE backyard Bar-B-Q hosted by Six Shooter Records and Damzels in this Dress. They were a bunch of nice guys from Newfoundland playing songs everyone liked. And now they’re making even better songs. I hope they’re still nice guys.
Has anyone said they could be the next Tragically Hip? Just thought of that now: they’re nice, play good songs, lots of people like ‘em, they sorta sound Pan-Canadian. So if nobody has said it, I’m saying it now: Hey Rosetta! could be the next Tragically Hip.
Polaris Song of the Day: Piano Drop. Tim Hecker.
Honestly, the description of Tim Hecker as “sound artist” on his website sorta made me not want to like his sound art. But you know, you can’t judge an album by an artist description. And you might just be able to judge an album by it’s cover art. Here, the cover is a photo of the first MIT Baker House Piano Drop. Well, the moment before a bunch of MIT dudes push a piano off a building. If that intrigues you, watch this video; it shows the whole wacky event. Guess what? The song fits it perfectly. Maybe it is sound artistry after all.
I saw a girl wear a sparkly gold dress to the laundromat this weekend. You know you’ve left your laundry too long when…

Don’t get me wrong; I love wearing sparkly gold dresses, but if you wanna wear them in the daytime, go out to tea, not to the laundromat. That’s quirky and fun. A cocktail frock to do laundry? That’s an ad proclaiming, “I’m the laziest person ever! I leave work until the very last minute!” It’s way better to be known as quirky and fun rather than a dirty, lazyass.
Polaris Song of the Day: Getcha Good. Jenn Grant.
Do people in Halifax really cure winter blahs by dancing in the street with Jenn Grant? Oh, please let it be so!
BUST: defining a whole new world of feminisim where girls love boys. Or girls love girls. But they all love good music, art, film, crafts, cooking, makeup, and really cute clothes.
There’s also great stuff for yourself or for gift-giving in their awesome Boobtique!
The best way to celebrate Canada Day has go to be by watching as many NFB films as possible!
There are hundreds of ‘em online! My favourites: The Big Snit, Madame Tutli Putli, The Cat Came Back, The Sweater, and Log Driver’s Waltz.
Every recipe I ever made from this site turned out amazingly well. I use it if I have to go grocery shopping from work and go home immediately. It’s also great for using whatever’s in your fridge.
